Being Positive

being-positiveTwo lessons were learnt this week, both on the theme of being positive. It’s so easy, especially in the UK as the summer ends, to be all “doom and gloom” and not see every day as an opportunity to connect with our fellow human-beings. I was guilty of this last Thursday at 5:00 a.m. when I was on the way to Gatwick Airport to catch a flight to Marseilles on a buying trip, courtesy of an organization in the UK working on behalf of the FRIAA. To be honest, it had been too long-winded in the planning and I didn’t really want to be there.  Madness had hit our office and warehouse, both of which are currently deluged with pre-Christmas orders and I felt I should stay behind to help out–and not leave the office (and country)–after all, they always seem to think if I am not in the office I am not working! Speciality & Fine Food Fair 2010 - How was it for you?

fine-food-fairWell, it’s over for another year.  Fresh RM are claiming it was the best ever with nearly 600 exhibitors.  Certainly the exhibitors’ drinks on the first evening was more crowded and noisy than I ever remember! I have exhibited at this show from the beginning, and so have 11 years of experience.  As the show has become larger it has changed in character; I would say that there isn’t quite the buzz that there used to be in the early years, but most definitely an increase in professionalism.  (more…)

Planes, Trains & Auto-rickshaws

indiaI have just come back from India and what can only be described as the most exhausting holiday of my life!  Fascinating and interesting, but also very tiring.  I would love to tell you that I was sourcing new products over there, but I wasn’t.  It was a holiday, so I was putting into practice the lessons from the last blog about going away and leaving our businesses to others who will grow with the additional responsibility.  It was great – I hardly thought about the business whilst I was away.
